Why we built this
Search for almost any pair of wild cats and the results are dominated by hypothetical fights, invented statistics and numbers copied from one page to the next with no attribution. Meanwhile the real information — assessment documents, specialist group accounts, field studies — is scattered, technical and rarely organised for direct comparison.
This library sits in between. It takes the same set of fields for every one of the 40 living wild cat species, records them from credible published sources, and lets anyone place two species side by side and see exactly where they differ.
What the site covers
- A full profile for every wild cat species, from the tiger to the rusty-spotted cat.
- A comparison tool that builds a structured, like-for-like table for any valid pair.
- Comparisons written and reviewed by editors, with the context a table cannot supply.
- Reference material explaining what each field means and how conservation categories work.
What we do not do
We do not stage hypothetical fights, declare winners, publish strength or power rankings, or turn species into scores. Those framings are popular and they are also meaningless: the outcome of an imagined encounter between two animals that never meet is not a fact about either of them, and presenting it as one crowds out information that is genuinely useful.
We also do not fill gaps. Where a measurement has never been taken, the profile says so.
Who this is for
Students working on a species report, teachers preparing material, wildlife photographers and travellers trying to tell two similar cats apart, and anyone who wants a clear answer to "how are these two actually different?" without wading through a technical assessment.
How the work is organised
Species profiles are researched against the reference hierarchy set out in our sources and methodology notes, checked by a second person, and dated. Featured comparisons go through the same process with an additional review of the interpretive text, because that is where errors are easiest to introduce.
Corrections are welcome and are handled under a published corrections policy. If something here is wrong, we would rather hear about it than not.
Independence
Content decisions are made by the editorial team alone. No organisation, sponsor or commercial partner reviews or approves what is published here, and no species profile or comparison is commissioned or paid for by a third party. Our editorial policy sets out how that separation is maintained.
