What we collect
Technical records kept by the server
Like every website, this one runs on a server that records requests. Those records can include your internet protocol address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, the address of the page that referred you, and basic information your browser sends about itself. These records exist to keep the site available and secure, to diagnose faults and to identify abusive traffic. They are not used to build a profile of you and are not combined with any other information.
Information you send us
If you use the contact form, the name, email address, subject and message you enter are processed to prepare your message. Submitting the form does not create a stored record on this site; the message is handed to your own email application so that you keep a copy and remain in control of sending it. Once you send it, the resulting email sits in our mailbox until the matter is dealt with.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, passwords or login information.
- No payment or financial information.
- No advertising or cross-site tracking identifiers.
- No location data beyond what an internet protocol address implies.
- No information from children knowingly collected; this site is not directed at children under 13.
Why we are allowed to process it
Server records are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure and functioning website. Correspondence is processed on the basis of your own request to contact us. Where local law requires consent for anything beyond this, we will ask for it before doing it.
How long we keep it
- Server records — retained for a short operational period, typically no longer than 90 days, then discarded or aggregated.
- Correspondence — kept while the matter is open and for a reasonable period afterwards, so that we have a record of corrections and permissions. Deleted on request unless we are required to keep it.
Who else is involved
The site is delivered by a hosting provider, which necessarily processes requests on our behalf and maintains the server records described above. We do not sell, rent or share personal information, and we do not disclose it to third parties except where we are legally required to do so.
Pages on this site link to external organisations such as conservation bodies and research institutions. Once you follow such a link you are on their site and their privacy practices apply, not ours.
Cookies
This site does not set cookies for analytics, advertising or tracking. Our cookie policy explains the position in full and what would change if that ever did.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what information relating to you we hold, to receive a copy of it, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority.
Readers in California may additionally ask whether personal information has been collected, sold or shared. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
To exercise any of these, write to contact@thongkelode.com. We will respond within the period required by the law that applies to you, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and administrative access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but because we hold so little information, the amount at risk is correspondingly small.
International visitors
The site is operated for a general audience and may be accessed from anywhere. Server records may be processed in a country other than your own. By using the site you understand that this may occur.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — for example, if measurement or advertising services are introduced — the change will be described here and the effective date at the top of the page will be updated before the change takes effect.
