Terms of use

The conditions for using this site

By reading, searching or otherwise using thongkelode.com you accept the terms set out below. They cover what the material here is for, how it may be reused, and the limits of what we can promise about it.

Effective from August 28, 2026

1. What this site is

Thongkelode is an educational reference library about wild cat species. It is published for general information. It is not scientific advice, veterinary advice, legal advice or professional wildlife guidance, and it should not be relied on for management, regulatory or safety decisions.

2. Accuracy and limits

We take considerable care over the figures published here and describe our method openly. Even so, published sources conflict, assessments are revised, and errors occur. The material is provided as it stands, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

3. Availability

We do not guarantee that the site will be available without interruption, or that any particular page will remain at the same address. Pages may be revised, merged or withdrawn as the library is maintained.

4. Intellectual property

The written material, the structure of the species profiles, the comparison presentation and the species illustrations on this site are our original work and are protected by copyright. The underlying facts — measurements, ranges, conservation categories — are not owned by anyone and belong to the published record from which they are drawn.

5. Permitted use

You may, without asking us:

  • read, print and save pages for personal, educational or research use;
  • quote short passages, with attribution to Thongkelode and a link to the page quoted;
  • link to any page here from anywhere, including in teaching material and in academic work;
  • use the underlying factual data, which we encourage — a citation is appreciated but is not required.

6. Uses that require permission

You may not, without written permission:

  • republish substantial portions of the text, whether or not attributed;
  • reproduce or adapt the species illustrations;
  • reproduce the profiles or comparisons in a commercial product or publication;
  • use automated systems to copy the library wholesale, or place unreasonable load on the server;
  • frame or present the material in a way that implies endorsement or a relationship that does not exist.

Requests are usually straightforward. Write to contact@thongkelode.com and describe what you need.

7. Contributions you send us

If you send a correction, a source or a suggestion, you allow us to use it to improve the site. We will not publish your name unless you ask us to. Do not send confidential material or anything you do not have the right to share.

8. External links

We link to assessments, organisations and research bodies because they are useful. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content, and a link is not an endorsement of everything they publish.

9. Wildlife and legal responsibility

Wild cats are protected by law in most countries, and international trade in many species is regulated. Nothing on this site should be read as encouragement to approach, disturb, keep, capture or trade in any wild animal. Complying with the law where you are is your responsibility.

10. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The effective date at the top of the page shows when the current version took effect, and continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of it.

11. Contact
